SCATS recently recognized Fremont Hotel & Casino and Jokers Wild Casino for their successful entry into the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). These casino properties, both owned and operated by Boyd Gaming Corporation of Las Vegas, have been in the SHARP program since 2007 and continue to work diligently with SCATS on their commitment to workplace safety.
“Our partnership with SCATS in the SHARP program has shown outstanding results across our enterprise. We have seen consistent, dramatic reductions in workplace injuries across the company, and we have realized tremendous financial benefits through corresponding decreases in Workers Compensation costs and lost time,” said Dennis Siano, Vice President of Safety at Boyd Gaming.
The Fremont Hotel & Casino and Jokers Wild join an elite group of 47 businesses in Nevada that have successfully entered the SHARP program and have committed to maintain exemplary safety and health programs. Companies are recognized with the SHARP certification after undergoing a comprehensive facility audit, correction of all identified hazards, review of workplace safety programs, and keeping injury rates below the industry average. Participation in this no-cost program is designed to provide incentives and support to employers to develop, implement and continuously improve safety and health programs at their worksite(s). By taking these proactive measures, a business can reduce accident costs and ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations.

Jokers Wild’s participation in the program has helped the property to achieve a 72.55% reduction in our total recordable cases (TRC) and days away, restricted, or transferred rate (DART) since the property began working with SCATS in 2007. Over the same period, the Fremont has achieved a reduction of 66.66% in our total recordable cases (TRC) and days away, restricted, or transferred rate (DART).

SCATS consultants provide employers with confidential hazard identification, program development, program implementation assistance and training. Employers that implement effective safety and health programs and have a days away restricted transfer (DART) rate below the national average for their industry group, may be recognized by SCATS. Successful SHARP participants receive a two-year exemption from OSHA’s general schedule inspections.
