Starbucks Roasting Plant & Distribution Center
Bryan Barker - Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Here at the facility, we have about 350 employees - we call our employees partners here - and our facility's about 420,000 square foot. So we have a green area where we have green coffee coming in here. We have roasting and then we roast all the coffee and then that goes over to the packaging area where we package the coffee. And then we move it over to our distribution center. I ensure the safety and regulatory requirements are being kept and that all partners are going home safe and healthy every day. Ever since we've had SCATS in doing the consultation and reviewing our facility, really looking at our documentation on our programs and giving us that feedback that, you know, "You guys are doing a great job but here's also other areas that you can take advantage of and learn from." As a company and as a safety professional, it's always good to have somebody else coming in here and actually taking a look at your facility and then also your programs and providing you with opportunities that they've seen before in other areas or any other industries throughout Nevada. It's always good to kind of have them go in and review. I would say if a company is looking at taking their safety to that next level to get a hold of SCATS and get them involved in your program - one it's free and two they're really having a sector of OSHA coming in and actually reviewing and evaluating their programs and getting them to that next level. And it's just something that would be good for any company and take advantage of.
