Gary Daniels - Environmental Health & Safety Manager
This is the Nevada production facility. It’s about 150,000 square feet and we currently have 130 employees in this building. This is where the company started. The first two lines were out of here, this was the entirety of the production. SCATS came about - initially, I was just gonna take the intro to OSHA class to find out what it was all about and try to help myself get an understanding of what I was gonna be undertaking. With that, I found about the certificate program and everything else that was offered. I've taken many many of the courses. I send a bunch of our employees to it, I've had the consultation come through here and so that we've actually been able to achieve pre-SHARPs in a two-year period - from having no safety program and nothing in writing to pre-SHARPs in that short time period. I wanted to make this better. I wanted them to go through here with a fine-tooth comb and to tell me everything that was wrong. I'd rather have it come up on a consultation than have someone get hurt or have a surprise audit and be fined. I've been able to send several employees, supervisors, as well as managers, to kind of bring them into my world to let them see that there is a method to my madness, why I require the things I do - to really open their eyes to the safety world. It's education directly from the source. Instead of just worrying, you can reach out and ask. I've been able to develop an outstanding working relationship with all the instructors and the consultants to where I can just pick up the phone and ask them a question rather than wondering or running through hypotheticals. I can get the answer directly from the source. It's free, it costs you nothing.
