Nevada SCATS is Now Offering Free Online Workplace Health and Safety Courses

To expand our offerings and better equip Nevada’s workforce with necessary health and safety information and training amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, SCATS is now offering health and safety classes virtually. Shifting to virtual classes prevents the spread of COVID-19 and allows all Nevadans, not just those who live near a SCATS office or those who can travel to one, access to a range of free workplace safety classes.

SCATS now offers more than 20 free classes online, including classes on personal protective equipment, written workplace safety programs, respiratory protection awareness and many more. The new virtual classes are part of SCATS’ COVID-19 resources initiative, which includes the COVID-19 resources page. This initiative is designed to keep Nevadans working in a variety of industries to protect the safety and health of our communities.

“We are proud to expand our service offering and make it easier for all Nevadans to access our classes by moving more than 20 classes online,” said SCATS Chief Administrative Officer, Todd Schultz. “SCATS is dedicated to protecting Nevadans, reducing the spread of COVID-19, and providing all of Nevada’s workforce with the tools and resources necessary to stay safe at work.”

SCATS is offering free online classes multiple days a week starting in May. Anyone wishing to register for these free classes can do so at the SCATS calendar page. The full curriculum of available classes currently includes: scaffold regulatory review, concrete and masonry regulatory review, sanitation in workplace, confined space awareness, written workplace safety program, fall protection regulatory review, powered industrial trucks, forklift safety awareness, respirable crystalline silica in construction, respiratory protection awareness, machine safeguarding, personal protective equipment, bloodborne pathogens awareness, asbestos awareness, excavation regulatory review, introduction to OSHA, hazard communication awareness, safety data sheets, hearing conservation program, workplace violence awareness, workplace emergencies and evacuation, electrical hazards, supervisory communication with non-English speaking employees, and steel erection regulatory review.
