SPARKS, NEV. (April 15, 2026) – Recognized for excellence in workplace safety, the TekniPlex production plant located in Sparks, Nevada has successfully entered the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), a statewide recognition administered by Nevada’s Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS). This is the plant’s first SHARP designation.
“Partnering with SCATS has empowered our team to validate what we do well, strengthen areas where we can improve, and reinforce that safety is not simply an outcome, it’s a disciplined approach to how we operate,” said Timothy Erwin, Plant and Operations Project Manager at TekniPlex. “Earning SHARP recognition gives our employees a tremendous sense of pride, knowing we are joining an elite group of fewer than 40 businesses statewide who have achieved this standard.”
What is SHARP and why does it matter?
SHARP recognizes businesses that go above and beyond in creating safe, healthy workplaces. The program is free for employers and provides expert help with identifying safety hazards, improving safety programs and training employees.
To earn the designation, businesses must maintain injury and illness rates below national averages and demonstrate a strong, ongoing commitment to workplace safety. Those that qualify may also receive up to a three‑year deferral from OSHA’s routine inspections.
A leader in worksite safety across Nevada
By taking a proactive approach to workplace safety, the TekniPlex Sparks plant joins an elite group of Nevada employers recognized for exemplary safety and health programs.
“The TekniPlex team had a strong foundation of workplace safety protocols in place, but through pursuing SHARP designation, they further enhanced their culture of safety,” said Todd Schultz, Chief Administrative Officer for Nevada SCATS. “SCATS is proud to support the TekniPlex team and their continued commitment to protecting their employees’ health and well-being.”
Free safety support for Nevada businesses
SCATS offers confidential, no‑cost safety consultations statewide. Employers can receive help with hazard identification, safety program development, and employee training.
