Desert Star Energy Center Demonstrates Safety Excellence, Renewing Top Nevada Safety Consultation and Training Section Award

BOULDER CITY, NEV. (Oct. 15, 2025) – The Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) of the State of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations recognizes the Desert Star Energy Center in Boulder City, Nevada for successful renewal as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) participant. The program recognizes employers and workers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their industry.

This is Desert Star Energy Center’s fourth VPP recertification, and 16th consecutive year as a VPP Star worksite. Desert Star Energy Center has developed a longstanding relationship with SCATS, working with the team to continuously improve worksite safety.

“Safety is foundational to our culture, and the Desert Star Energy Center team is grateful for the collaboration with SCATS over the past several years,” said Kevin Lampman, Plant Manager at Desert Star Energy Center. “Seeking continuous improvement has become an ingrained way of life at Desert Star. We are never comfortable with the status quo, and our team members are continuously striving to find ways to make activities safer.”

Desert Star Energy Center is part of an elite group of businesses that have achieved VPP status by maintaining exemplary health and safety protocols to prevent fatalities, injuries and illnesses. Participation in the program provides incentives and support to employers to develop, implement and continuously improve programs at their worksite(s). By taking these proactive measures, businesses can reduce accident costs and ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) health and safety standards.

“Desert Star Energy Center’s participation in VPP demonstrates their continued commitment to strengthening their culture of safety and employee wellbeing,” said Todd Schultz, Chief Administrative Officer for SCATS. “It’s a privilege to have a longtime relationship with a team so dedicated to worksite safety, and we’re proud to partner with them.”

SCATS consultants provide employers with confidential hazard identification, program development, implementation assistance and training.
