June 2014 - Construction 10 & 30 Hour Refresher Class

Submitted by: Don Evans

Beginning in July of 2014, the Safety Consultation and Training Section will begin teaching 10/30 Construction Refresher Training classes. The initial class will be a six hour program that will complete the requirement for the five year renewal of the 10-hour card and will complete the mandatory requirements for the Introduction to OSHA and the Focus Four for the 30-hour card. For those individuals who need 15 hours of training to renew their 30-hour cards, you will need to take an additional 9 or more hours of training to complete the 15-hour requirement.
Other courses that are offered to meet the 15-hour training requirement include the following:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness - 3 hours
  • Confined Space Awareness - 3 hours
  • Control of Hazardous Energy “Lockout/Tagout” - 3 hours
  • Electrical Safe Work Practices – NFPA 70E - 3.5 hours
  • Excavation Regulatory Review - 4 hours
  • Hazard Communication Awareness - 3 hours
  • Personal Protective Equipment - 3.5 hours
  • Self-Inspections – 12 Weeks to a Safer Workplace - 3.5 hours

All training requirements must be completed within six months of the expiration date on your previous card. Upon submission of your letters of attendance, SCATS will verify the completion of your refresher training and annotate your card appropriately, as well as issuing a letter of completion. There is no grace period. If your initial card expires before completing the training requirements for renewal, you will need to retake the appropriate 10 or 30-hour course.
This refresher program will meet or exceed the requirements stated in NRS 618.983 and NAC 618.9923. Please watch the quarterly SCATS Training Schedule published on our website for a current list of our class offerings. All of the required classes will be offered each quarter throughout the year.

10-Hour Refresher classes in Spanish will begin in Northern Nevada in August of 2014, and a further announcement will be made when Spanish classes will begin in Southern Nevada.
